Elected Board Members / Voting Board Members

President: Janel Meis

Janel Meis, OTD, OTR/L specializes in outpatient and aquatic pediatric occupational therapy services. She holds her physical agent modalities certification and is certified in interactive metronome. Janel has served as a teaching assistant within Creighton’s OTD curriculum for the past five years. Janel has also traveled internationally with a medical team as an occupational therapist. She has represented the occupational therapy profession at a state and national level. She is a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association, the World Federation of Occupational Therapists and is also actively involved in the Nebraska Occupational Therapy Association. Janel is an advocate for the occupational therapy profession and believes in empowering the individuals we work with to live a better life!

Vice President – District 1: Lindsay Tuxhorn

Lindsay Tuxhorn, OTD, OTR/L currently resides in Syracuse, NE with her husband and two daughters. She received her undergraduate degree in Psychology and Applied Communications from Creighton University in 2004. In 2007, Lindsay completed her Clinical Doctorate in Occupational Therapy at Creighton University. She worked at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, NE for nine years, specializing in spinal cord injury.  She now works at Community Memorial Hospital in Syracuse, NE providing inpatient and outpatient therapy and school based services. Lindsay has been involved with NOTA in varied capacities throughout the past years including previous conference chair, presenter at NOTA conference, and serving on the continuing education committee and executive board for NOTA.

Vice President – District 2: Anna Domina

Anna Domina is the Vice Chair and Assistant Professor and Academic Clinical Education Coordinator in the Department of Occupational Therapy at Creighton University. She graduated with her OTD in 2004 from Creighton University. She has practiced as a school-based and early intervention pediatric occupational therapist for 10 years as well as a faculty member for the last 6 years. She currently coordinates occupational therapy residency programs at Creighton University. Anna served as the Nebraska Occupational Therapy Association (NOTA) president from 2012-2016.

Vice President – District 3: Lauren Erickson

Lauren Erickson resides in Kearney, Nebraska, with her husband Brian, and their son, Paxton. She enjoys golfing, biking, running, swimming, and doing anything out and about! She also enjoys skydiving. She works at New West Orthopaedic and Sports Rehabilitation in Kearney, Nebraska, and Phelps Memorial Therapy Center in Holdrege, NE. She has been an OT there for almost 9 years.

Secretary: Mikala Pfeifer

Mikala Pfeifer graduated from Creighton University in 2008. She has been at Methodist Hospital for 7 years where she is a lead occupational therapist. She works primarily on the acute rehab floor, but has experience on the acute care floors as well as in outpatient driving rehabilitation. She is excited to serve her first term as secretary of NOTA this year! Mikala is married to her husband, Adam, and together they have two daughters, Mya and Payton.

Treasurer: Michelle Massey

Michelle has been an Occupational Therapist for 24 years, graduating with BS/MS in OT from D’Youville College in Buffalo NY. Her vast career has included a variety of treatment settings such as Pediatric and Adult acute care, NICU, home based early intervention, Acute rehab, Out-patient and SNF.  She gained a love of pediatric OT while working at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles where she developed a specialization in feeding and swallowing in infants and young children. Upon moving to Omaha in 2003 she worked at Children's Hospital and Medical Center.  Moving into Academia was a lifelong goal,  in pursuit of this goal she served as clinical faculty at University of Southern California, Instructor of OT at College of Saint Mary, and adjunct faculty at Creighton University. Michelle is currently the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator at Nebraska Methodist College.  She is also currently in pursuit of her Doctorate in Education with a healthcare emphasis, with anticipated graduation Dec 2019.

Nicole Brown, MOT, OTR/L resides in Omaha, NE with her husband and two daughters. She received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Nebraska- Lincoln in 2006 and obtained her Masters degree in Occupational Therapy at Midwestern University in Downers Grove, IL in 2009. She has worked for Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, Bellevue and Omaha, NE for the past seven years. Nicole has been involved with NOTA for several years and enjoys taking the lead to secure vendors for our annual conference. 

District 2 Chair: Emily Barr

Emily Barr graduated from Creighton University's OTD program in 2011. She has been working at Hillcrest Health Services for five years, starting as a staff occupational therapist and now serving as the Rehab Director for the Papillion locations. Emily also serves as an adjunct faculty member for Creighton University's Greater Omaha program. Emily's passion is geriatrics, and she is currently working on her board certification in gerontology which she hopes to finish in December. On a personal, note she loves traveling, being outside, and spending time with her family.

District 3 Chair: Kate Brummer

Kate Brummer is an occupational therapist at Phelps Memorial Therapy Center where she has worked since July 2018. She graduated from Creighton University in 2012. She enjoys the diversity working in a rural setting brings, allowing her to see ortho patients and geriatrics all in the same day. She is a Car Fit Event Coordinator and has helped to put on several CarFit events in Western Nebraska. She is a mom to 2 girls, Jaina and Josie. Kate and her husband enjoy running and working on their house in their spare time.

Rebecca Frans, OTD, OTR/L, lives in Bennington with her husband Jeff, and their two dogs. She enjoys camping, kayaking, anything outdoors, and training for half-marathons. Becca graduated from Creighton University in December, 2011. She has been working at Methodist Hospital since 2012, both on the acute rehab and acute care floors, and as a lead occupational therapist. Becca holds her physical agent modalities certification and serves on the Methodist Master of Occupational Therapy Advisory Board as well as the Nebraska Stroke Advisory Council Rehabilitation Task Force. Becca is looking forward to serving as Fundraiser Chair!


Administrative Assistant: Kristin Gzehoviak 
Kristin Gzehoviak has been the Administrative Assistant for NOTA since 2011. She and her husband Aaron reside in Omaha with their two children, Henry (6) & Greta (3), and their boxer, Bauer.

Lobbyist: Cheryl Frickel

Cheryl Frickel started as Lobbyist and Chair of Nebraska Occupational Therapy Association Policy and Advocacy Committee (NOTAPAC) in January 2017. NOTAPAC was created to expand the occupational therapy presence in Nebraska and increase the occupational therapy students’ involvement in policy and advocacy. Cheryl attends the Board of OT meetings in Lincoln, communicates with the state Senators, and is part of a coalition committee to ensure the occupational therapy practice is protected. She aims to advocate for the people in Nebraska to receive health care and occupational therapy skilled services needed by following bills, contacting Senators, and reaching out to practitioners through NOTAPAC and social media. Supporting Cheryl’s efforts are OT students and practitioners on the committee that also play integral roles in assisting her with lobbying. Outside of lobbyist, Cheryl is an occupational therapist at Madonna Rehabilitation in Omaha, NE and specializes in home assessments. 

RA / AOTA Representative: Melissa Kimmerling

Dr. Melissa Kimmerling EdD, MOT, OTR/L is the Program Director for the Master in Occupational Therapy Program at NMC. Dr. Kimmerling has clinical experience in acute care, rehabilitation, skilled nursing, outpatient, and home health. Dr. Kimmerling serves as the Representative from the State of Nebraska to the American Occupational Therapy Association's Representative Assembly. Dr. Kimmerling has presented her practice research locally, regionally, and nationally and has also been a speaker for community-based organizations. Dr. Kimmerling holds her Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy and her Doctorate in Health Professions Education from the College of Saint Mary. Dr. Kimmerling spent three years in full time academic appointment for College of Saint Mary prior to moving into the consulting role and then Program Director role for NMC.
