The Power of Occupation: Use of Gardening to Promote Health and Wellness

Presenter: Kathleen Flecky, OTD, OTR/L 

Location: Nebraska Methodist College located at 720 N 87th Street in Omaha

Cost: $5 for NOTA members, $10 for Non-members

Dr. Flecky is an Associate Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy at Creighton University. She has worked with individuals of all ages as well as communities for over 20 years to engage in gardening with a goal to enhance occupational participation, health and wellness.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the unique role of occupational therapy in use of gardening to engage clients and population groups in meaningful participation
  • Apply occupation-based strategies to design, implement, evaluate and sustain gardening community programs through a case study review
  • Examine evidence-based literature on the activities of gardening to enhance health and wellness.
