Senatorial Outreach 2007

Practice Visits

 

Proposal:

 

·         NOTA will work with 3-4 facilities to host practice visits in the 2007 year.

·         NOTA will share cost with the facility for this visit.  Estimate $1000 each visit so $500 for our association and $500 for facility.

·         Legislative Committee with work with interested facilities to identify those interested in hosting a practice visit.  Will establish application for each facility to complete and identify the 3 or 4 we would like to partner with financially to host.

·         Amy Lamb will work side by side with the 3-4 facilities in planning the practice visit.

·         Amy is working on establishing a guide for NOTA facilities to use to walk them through hosting a practice visit.  Guide outline is below.

·         After the 2007 Practice Initiatives then Senatorial Outreach can re-emerge in the 2008 session at the Capitol with publicity during OT month.

 

Guide Outline:

 

1.      Letter to colleagues on benefits of the practice visit.

2.      Sample letter, telephone script, email script to invite the Senator.

3.      Planning the practice visit (including checklist)

a.       Outline the invitation

b.      Invite the legislator

4.      Organizing the practice visit (including checklist)

a.       Key messages you wish the legislator to take away

b.      Identifying who will be involved on site and involve them in planning so the visit is smooth

c.       Coordinate with patients (current and past)

d.      Do’s and Don’ts

5.      Implementation of the practice visit (including checklist)

a.       Tips during the visit

b.      Identify what is needed – if challenges are identified for patient care or access what is needed to rectify this and offer it as a suggestion in the conversation

6.      Practice visit follow up (including checklist)

a.       Thank  you notes

b.      Send photographs with the legislator and his/her constituents

c.       Display the photographs in your department with the appreciation note your legislator will send to you

d.      Write up your experience for the NOTA newsletter and share with AOTA State Affairs team
